Online education is also known as distance
education. Recently, the trend of distance education is increased due to latest
technologies and availability of internet. With the help of internet one is able to take classes by using video calling, webcams
and through emails.
One of the best advantages of online learning is that you
can easily get admission in your favourite course and take classes by sitting
at home.
There are thousands of
universities in the whole world who offer online courses and degree programs
for the interested students.History of online or distance education is
not limited to the Dawn of internet. It was started many years before.In 1728, Caleb
Philips started to advertise the courses in a newspaper.
After more than a
century in 1858, the first university which offered the distance learning
programs to students was the London University. Later in 1873, college in USA
started to run a program, purpose of this program was to encourage and engage
the society to study at home.
In 1892, University of Chicago in America
offers several distance learning
programs for the students.
University of Wisconsin- Madison was first
university in which “distance education” terms was used. In 1906, the first
school offer distance education courses was Calvert School of Baltimore.
In 1911, special department of distance
education was open in University of Queensland in Australia. From 1922 to 1958 several
universities in USA, South Africa and England launched there distance education
program and courses. In 1976, coastline community college offers is its several
courses through telephones televisions and radios. This campus was known as the
first virtual campus in the world.Modern internet was born 1983 and later in 1989 University of Phoenix,
launch its first online degree program for students of the whole world.
